COURSE OBJECTIVES 1.Introduction to Pulmonary Trauma: • Define pulmonary trauma and distinguish between blunt and penetrating injuries. • Describe the anatomical structures and physiological functions of the lungs relevant to trauma. 2.Epidemiology and Etiology: • Identify common causes and mechanisms of pulmonary trauma, including motor vehicle accidents, falls, gunshot wounds, and industrial accidents. • Discuss risk factors associated with pulmonary trauma. 3.Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis: • Review clinical signs and symptoms of pulmonary trauma, such as dyspnea, chest pain, hemoptysis, and respiratory distress. • Explain diagnostic approaches, including imaging modalities (chest X-ray, CT scan) and laboratory tests. 4.Management of Pulmonary Trauma: • Outline initial stabilization and resuscitation techniques in the management of acute pulmonary trauma. • Describe surgical and non-surgical treatment options for different types of pulmonary injuries. 5.Complications and Prognosis: • Identify potential complications of pulmonary trauma, such as respiratory failure, pneumonia, and long-term pulmonary dysfunction. • Discuss factors influencing prognosis and outcomes in patients with pulmonary trauma.
